Evolve Showerheads
Evolve: Saving Water in the Real World
Low-flow showerheads have been around for quite awhile, and they are one of the most important, affordable, and easy-to-install green home products available. Their use saves homeowners thousands of gallons of water and hundreds of dollars in energy savings each and every year. But they're not perfect, and neither are we; lots of water is wasted as we simply go about our business while we wait for our water to get hot. Evolve's "Showerstart" technology has solved this problem.
Evolve ShowerStart
Most of us shower in the mornings, and for many of us the morning rush is a time of chaos, of rushing around trying to get ready for work, get the kids dressed and off to school, feed the dog, and on and on.... When we're crunched for time, and every minute counts (especially since we hit that snooze bar an extra four times), it's easy to take the minute or two that it takes for the water to get hot to do something else. Brush our teeth, get the coffee started.... you know how it is.
Unfortunately, we can get distracted quite easily in the groggy early morning hours, and forget about that hot water as it flows down the drain, completely wasted. If only our showerhead was looking out for us. That's the basis for Evolve's showerstart showerhead technology.
How Evolve Showerheads Work
All of that heated water running down the drain is completely wasted energy; every minute that water is running needlessly, 2.5 gallons or more per minute is wasted. Evolve has developed the showerStart technology to cut down on all of that waste.
What Evolve showerstart technology does is very simple: you turn on the shower to get it warmed up, and go about your business. When the water temperature reaches a comfortable 95 degrees, the showerstart feature cuts the water flow down to a mere trickle until you remember that the shower is running and you hop in. Pull the cord, and the water flow resumes instantly, nice and warm.
Energy and Money Saving Potential
By installing Evolve products in your showers, the savings add up quickly.
By eliminating this unnecessary water flow, water usage is reduced; up to 2,700 gallons on water a year. And the energy needed to heat all of that water is reduced to, up to $75 a year, year in and year out.
Evolve's showerStart technology allows homeowners to live more responsibly without making any sacrifice or change to lifestyle.
Evolve Roadrunner II Showerhead
For homeowners looking for a brand-new low-flow showerhead, Evolve offers the Roadrunner II showerhead. This showerhead features an extremely efficient 1.5 gallon per minute flow rate. The Roadrunner II has the ShowerStart technology built in; together with the low flow rate, the Roadrunner II will save roughly 8 gallons of water for every 5 minute shower when compared to a traditional 2.5 gpm showerhead. The Roadrunner II is Watersense certified as a water-saving device for green homes.
Evolve Ladybug
If you are already using low -flow showerheads in your home and are satisfied with their performance, the Evolve Ladybug allows you to easily incorporate the ShowerStart technology into its usage.
The Ladybug device is simply installed between the showerhead and the arm of the shower. It contains the ShoweStart pull string to turn the water stream on once the water is warmed.
The Ladybug is compatible with all industry standard showerheads, and will not interfere with shower flow rates or water pressure on showerheads of 2.5 gpm or less.
Important Note about Tankless Water Heaters
Evolve has indicated that their ShowerStart products are not designed for use in homes that use a tankless (instant) hot water heater system. Instant hot water heating eliminates the 'lag time' in water warmups, and thus eliminate the need for the ShowerStart technology.
The Evolve products are a fantastic example of incorporating useful energy saving products into everyday life; they work to effortlessly reduce the amount of water and energy used in the home , and should be considered as part of an overall green plan for homes that use traditional hot water systems.
